Summary
CVE-2024-9896 is a Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the BBP Core plugin for WordPress. Versions up to and including 1.2.5 of this plugin are vulnerable, allowing unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. This can be achieved by tricking users into clicking on a malicious link. The vulnerability arises from the use of add_query_arg function without proper escaping on the URL. Successful exploitation could lead to data theft or unauthorized account takeover. Upgrading to the latest version of the plugin is recommended to mitigate this risk.
