Summary
CVE-2024-42347 affects the matrix-react-sdk, a react-based SDK used for integrating Matrix chat and voip functionality into web pages. This vulnerability allows a malicious homeserver to manipulate user account data, enabling URL previews in encrypted rooms. Consequently, URLs in encrypted messages are transmitted to the server. Matrix-react-sdk version 3.105.0 has addressed this issue. Deployments relying on trusted homeservers or closed federations of servers remain unaffected. Users are strongly advised to upgrade to the latest version as there are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.
