Summary

CVE-2024-32644 is a critical vulnerability affecting the Evmos blockchain, a scalable and Ethereum-compatible Proof-of-Stake EVM blockchain, prior to version 17.0.0. This issue arises due to the potential for two different states not being in sync during a transaction, allowing for the arbitrary minting of tokens. This vulnerability is exploited through the `stateDB.Commit()` method, which updates the Cosmos SDK KVStore when the new state differs from the original one. Contracts capable of modifying their storage state during a transaction and calling external contracts afterward can be exploited for potential fund draining attacks. The vulnerability has been resolved in versions 17.0.0 and later.
