Summary

CVE-2024-32002 is a vulnerability affecting Git, a widely-used revision control system, prior to versions 2.45.1, 2.44.1, 2.43.4, 2.42.2, 2.41.1, 2.40.2, and 2.39.4. The issue lies in the handling of submodules, which can be manipulated to write files into the `.git/` directory instead of the intended worktree. An attacker can then execute a hook during the clone operation, bypassing the opportunity for inspection. This vulnerability has been patched in the aforementioned versions. To mitigate the risk, disabling symbolic link support in Git can prevent this attack. Always ensure to clone repositories only from trusted sources.
