Summary

CVE-2024-29809 is a Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the image_url parameter of the editimage_bwg action in admin-ajax.php. An attacker can exploit this issue by injecting malicious JavaScript code into the image_url parameter of an AJAX request. The code is then embedded within an existing JavaScript response, allowing it to be executed arbitrarily on the victim's browser. This vulnerability poses a significant risk to authenticated users with permissions to access this component, as they are prime targets for exploitation. Successful attacks can lead to unauthorized data access, manipulation, or theft, as well as potentially more serious consequences such as account takeover or session hijacking. It is recommended that affected systems be patched as soon as possible to mitigate this risk.
