Summary

CVE-2024-28253 is a Remote Code Execution vulnerability affecting OpenMetadata, a platform for metadata management and observability. The issue lies within the `CompiledRule::validateExpression` function, which is called during the creation or update of policies. An attacker can send a malicious PUT request to the `/api/v1/policies` endpoint, bypassing an authorization check and executing arbitrary code before it is verified. This vulnerability, also known as GHSL-2023-252, can be exploited to gain unauthorized access and control over the system. Users are urged to upgrade to version 1.3.1 as a mitigation measure, as no workarounds are available.
