Summary

CVE-2024-26269 is a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting Liferay Portal versions 7.2.0 through 7.4.3.37 and Liferay DXP before update 38, 7.3 before update 11, 7.2 before fix pack 20, and older unsupported versions. This issue lies in the Frontend JS module's portlet.js, enabling remote attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts or HTML via the anchor (hash) part of a URL. Successful exploitation could lead to unintended execution of malicious code in a user's web browser, potentially causing data theft, session hijacking, or other security breaches. Users are strongly advised to apply the relevant security patches to mitigate this risk.
