Summary

CVE-2024-24826 is a newly discovered out-of-bounds read vulnerability affecting Exiv2, a command-line utility and C++ library for handling image metadata. This issue, present in Exiv2 version v0.28.1, resides in the `QuickTimeVideo::NikonTagsDecoder` function, which was introduced in v0.28.0. The vulnerability is triggered when processing a specially crafted video file, leading to an out-of-bounds read. In most instances, this results in a crash. Exiv2 versions prior to v0.28 are not impacted. To mitigate the risk, users are advised to upgrade to Exiv2 version v0.28.2, as no known workarounds are available.
