Summary
CVE-2024-23449 is a vulnerability affecting Elasticsearch versions greater than 8.4.0 and less than 8.11.1. When an encrypted PDF file is passed to the REST API's attachment processor, an uncaught exception occurs, causing the Elasticsearch ingest node to crash. This issue does not affect password-protected or unencrypted PDF files.
