Summary

CVE-2024-23342 is a vulnerability affecting the `ecdsa` PyPI package, which provides Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) functionality with support for ECDSA, EdDSA, and ECDH. Versions 0.18.0 and older are susceptible to the Minerva attack. At the time of publication, no patched version has been released. This issue may pose a significant risk to systems using the unpatched package for digital signature and key exchange operations. The Minerva attack exploits weaknesses in the ECC algorithm implementation, potentially leading to decryption of encrypted data or forgery of digital signatures. Users are urged to upgrade to a patched version as soon as it becomes available.
