Summary

CVE-2024-21505 is a prototype pollution vulnerability affecting versions of the web3-utils package prior to 4.2.1. This issue stems from the utility functions format and mergeDeep, which exhibit insecure recursive merge behavior. An attacker can exploit this flaw by manipulating an object's prototype, altering the behavior of all objects that inherit from the affected prototype. This can lead to potential security risks, as critical functionality could be changed or new functionality could be introduced without proper authorization.
