Summary
CVE-2024-21163 is a newly disclosed vulnerability affecting MySQL Server versions 8.0.37 and prior, as well as 8.4.0 and prior (Oracle MySQL, Server: Optimizer component). A high privileged attacker with network access can exploit this easily exploitable issue via multiple protocols to cause a denial-of-service (DOS) by causing a hang or frequently repeating crashes in the MySQL Server. Additionally, attackers can take advantage of this vulnerability to gain unauthorized access to update, insert, or delete data with local file inclusion vulnerabilities in certain MySQL configurations (CVSS 3.1 Base Score 5.5, Integrity and Availability impacts).
