Summary

CVE-2024-20318 is a vulnerability affecting the Layer 2 Ethernet services of Cisco IOS XR Software. An unauthenticated, adjacent attacker can exploit this issue by sending specific Ethernet frames to an affected device, leading to the ingress interface network processor resetting. This condition results in a denial of service (DoS) and causes line cards to reset multiple times. The root cause of this vulnerability lies in the incorrect handling of certain Ethernet frames received by line cards with Layer 2 services enabled.
