Summary

CVE-2024-20307 is a vulnerability affecting the IKEv1 fragmentation code in Cisco IOS Software and Cisco IOS XE Software. This issue permits an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a heap overflow, leading to an affected device reloading. The vulnerability arises from improper handling of crafted, fragmented IKEv1 packets. An attacker can exploit this flaw by sending malicious UDP packets to the target system. Successful exploitation results in a Denial of Service (DoS) condition as the device reloads. Noteworthy, this vulnerability can be triggered by IPv4 and IPv6 traffic directed towards the affected system.
