Summary
CVE-2024-1942 is a vulnerability affecting Mattermost versions 8.1.x before 8.1.9, 9.2.x before 9.2.5, and 9.3.0. An authenticated attacker can exploit this issue by injecting permalinks with malicious metadata in posts, allowing them to access the contents of individual posts in channels they are not authorized to join. This failure to sanitize metadata poses a significant risk to data confidentiality and should be addressed promptly by updating to the patched versions.
