Summary

CVE-2024-1931 is a denial-of-service vulnerability affecting versions 1.18.0 to 1.19.1 of Unbound from NLnet Labs. The flaw arises from an unchecked condition in the code that handles Exception Data Extension (EDE) records. When Unbound replies with attached EDE information and the client's buffer size is too small, the code responsible for trimming the text of these records can enter an infinite loop. This issue is only triggered when the 'ede: yes' option is used, making it a non-default configuration vulnerability. The issue has been resolved in Unbound version 1.19.2.
