Summary

CVE-2024-1618 is a local user privilege vulnerability in Faronics Deep Freeze Server Standard, specifically affecting versions 8.30.020.4627 and earlier. The issue lies with the DFServ.exe file, which is susceptible to a search path or unquoted item vulnerability. An attacker with local user access can exploit this weakness to replace the legitimate DFServ.exe service executable with a malicious file of the same name but located in a higher priority directory. Upon service startup, the system will unintentionally run the malicious file, granting the attacker the ability to execute arbitrary code, gain unauthorized access, or halt the service.
