Summary

CVE-2024-0853 is a vulnerability affecting the curl library. It allows a man-in-the-middle attacker to bypass SSL certificate validation, as curl inadvertently caches SSL session IDs even when OCSP stapling tests fail. Subsequent transfers to the same hostname may succeed based on the cache, bypassing the verify status check. This issue poses a significant security risk, as it can lead to data being transmitted over an insecure connection despite the presence of failed certificate validation checks. Users are advised to update their curl installations to mitigate this vulnerability.
