Summary

CVE-2023-6680 is a certificate validation vulnerability affecting GitLab Enterprise Edition (EE). This issue, which impacts versions 11.6 to 16.6 prior to their respective patch releases, exposes Smartcard authentication to unauthorized access. An attacker can exploit this flaw to authenticate as another user by providing a valid public key during the authentication process. Given that Smartcard authentication is an optional, experimental feature that administrators must manually enable, the risk associated with this vulnerability is heightened for affected organizations using this authentication method.
