Summary

CVE-2023-6597 is a vulnerability affecting the CPython `tempfile.TemporaryDirectory` class in versions 3.12.1, 3.11.7, 3.10.13, 3.9.18, and 3.8.18 and prior. This issue allows users who can run privileged programs to modify file permissions, as the class dereferences symlinks during cleanup of permissions-related errors. By manipulating symlinks, attackers could potentially gain unintended access to or modify files. This vulnerability poses a significant risk, as it can lead to severe security implications.
