Summary

CVE-2023-6594 is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the WordPress Button Plugin MaxButtons in all versions up to 9.7.4. This issue occurs due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the plugin's admin settings. Authenticated attackers with administrator-level permissions can exploit this vulnerability to inject arbitrary web scripts that execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This vulnerability only impacts multi-site installations and installations where unfiltered_html has been disabled. Lower-privileged users, such as contributors, can be given button creation privileges, allowing them to carry out attacks if the plugin is not promptly updated.
