Summary

CVE-2023-6516 is a vulnerability affecting BIND 9 versions 9.16.0 through 9.16.45 and 9.16.8-S1. The named recursive resolver in these versions attempts to maintain cache database efficiency by cleaning up the database through various methods, some of which are asynchronous. However, if the resolver is handling frequent query patterns that trigger cache maintenance, it may fail to process cleanup events in a timely manner. Consequently, the number of queued cleanup events can grow indefinitely, leading to a significant exceeding of the configured max-cache-size limit.
