Summary

CVE-2023-6159 is a vulnerability affecting GitLab CE/EE versions 12.7 to 16.8.1. The issue puts all versions prior to 16.6.6 for CE, and prior to 16.7.4 and 16.8.1 for EE at risk. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by providing a maliciously crafted `Cargo.toml` input, leading to a Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS). This could potentially cause GitLab to consume excessive resources or crash, resulting in a denial of service.
