Summary

CVE-2023-6111 is a use-after-free vulnerability affecting the Linux kernel's netfilter: nf_tables component. This issue allows for local privilege escalation by exploiting the function nft_trans_gc_catchall, which fails to remove a catchall set element from the catchall_list when the sync argument is set to true. As a result, the same catchall set element can be freed multiple times, creating an opportunity for attackers to gain elevated privileges. To mitigate this risk, it is recommended to upgrade to the commit 93995bf4af2c5a99e2a87f0cd5ce547d31eb7630 or later.
