Summary

CVE-2023-6009 is a privilege escalation vulnerability affecting the UserPro plugin for WordPress. In versions up to 5.1.4, the 'userpro_update_user_profile' function lacks sufficient restrictions. As a result, authenticated attackers with minimal permissions, such as a subscriber, can exploit this vulnerability by supplying manipulated 'wp_capabilities' parameters during a profile update. Successful exploitation allows the attacker to modify their user role, potentially gaining elevated privileges within the WordPress installation. This issue could lead to significant security risks, including unauthorized access and data breaches. It is strongly recommended that WordPress users update their UserPro plugin to the latest version to mitigate this vulnerability.
