Summary

CVE-2023-5740 is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the Live Chat with Facebook Messenger plugin for WordPress. The issue lies in the plugin's 'messenger' shortcode, which does not properly sanitize or escape user-supplied attributes. This weakness allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access and above to inject malicious scripts into pages. These scripts will execute whenever a user visits an injected page, potentially leading to unintended actions or data leaks. Versions of the plugin up to and including 1.0 are vulnerable to this issue.
