Summary

CVE-2023-5663 is a vulnerability affecting the News Announcement Scroll plugin for WordPress. This issue allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level permissions and above to perform SQL Injection attacks. The vulnerability arises from insufficient escaping on user-supplied parameters and a lack of sufficient preparation on existing SQL queries. As a result, attackers can append additional SQL queries to already existing ones, enabling them to extract sensitive information from the database. WordPress users running versions up to and including 9.0.0 of the News Announcement Scroll plugin are at risk. It is recommended to update to the latest version of the plugin or consider disabling it as a precautionary measure until a patch is available.
