Summary

CVE-2023-5618 is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the Modern Footnotes plugin for WordPress. The flaw, present in versions up to 1.4.16, arises from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes in the plugin's shortcode. This vulnerability enables authenticated attackers, with contributor-level permissions and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. Upon accessing an injected page, the scripts will execute, posing a significant security risk.
