Summary

CVE-2023-5566 is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability affecting the Simple Shortcodes plugin for WordPress. This issue, which exists in versions up to and including 1.0.20, stems from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied shortcode attributes. Consequently, authenticated attackers with contributor-level permissions or higher can inject malicious web scripts. These scripts will execute whenever a user accesses an affected page, potentially leading to unintended actions or data theft.
