Summary

CVE-2023-5563 is a cybersecurity vulnerability affecting the SJA1000 CAN controller driver backend. When built with the CONFIG_CAN_AUTO_BUS_OFF_RECOVERY option, this driver automatically attempts to recover from bus-off events, leading to a call to k_sleep() in an IRQ context. This irregular use of the sleep function in an interrupt context results in a fatal exception, potentially causing system instability or crashes. Attackers could exploit this vulnerability to cause denial-of-service conditions or gain unauthorized access to sensitive data. System administrators are advised to update their driver software to a version that addresses this issue to mitigate the risk.
