Summary

CVE-2023-5504 is a vulnerability affecting the BackWPup plugin for WordPress. This issue allows authenticated attackers to traverse directories and save backups in arbitrary folders on the server, up to version 4.0.1. The Log File Folder is the point of entry. By manipulating this setting, attackers can potentially disrupt other websites in a shared environment by placing backups in the root directory of those sites, causing index.php and .htaccess files to be created and disabling the affected sites.
