Summary

CVE-2023-5379 is a vulnerability affecting JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP). This issue lies in Undertow, where an Apache Jserv Protocol (AJP) request with headers exceeding the max-header-size in ajp-listener causes JBoss EAP to enter an error state. mod_cluster in httpd marks the affected JBoss EAP instance as an error worker upon TCP connection closure from the backend, resulting in no AJP response being returned. Malicious actors could exploit this DoS vulnerability by repeatedly sending requests with oversized headers, ultimately leading to the termination of TCP connections and causing JBoss EAP to stop forwarding, thus denying legitimate user access.
