Details
Summary
CVE-2023-52440 is a newly identified vulnerability in the Linux kernel that affects the ksmbd component. This issue arises due to a slub overflow in the function ksmbd_decode_ntlmssp_auth_blob(). If the Length parameter in the SessionKey of an incoming NTLMSSP authentication blob exceeds the expected size (CIFS_KEY_SIZE), the function will fail to allocate sufficient memory, leading to a slub overflow. Consequently, memory corruption can occur during key exchange codes, potentially enabling attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial-of-service condition. System administrators are encouraged to apply the necessary patches to mitigate this vulnerability.
