Summary

CVE-2023-52076 is a serious vulnerability affecting the Atril Document Viewer, the default document reader for the MATE desktop environment on Linux. Prior to version 1.26.2, this software was susceptible to a path traversal and arbitrary file write vulnerability. An attacker could exploit this issue to write arbitrary files anywhere on the affected system, potentially leading to Remote Command Execution. The only restriction is that existing files cannot be overwritten. Users are advised to update to version 1.26.2 to apply the patch and mitigate this risk.
