Summary
CVE-2023-5189 is a newly identified vulnerability affecting Ansible's handling of tarballs during the import process in the Ansible Automation Hub. This issue involves a path traversal risk, allowing a malicious tarball to contain a symlink that, upon import, could result in the overwriting of existing files on the disk. An attacker could exploit this weakness by crafting a specially designed tarball, potentially leading to unintended file modifications or data leakage. Organizations using Ansible Automation Hub are advised to update to the latest version as soon as possible to mitigate this risk.
