Summary

CVE-2023-51713 is a vulnerability affecting ProFTPD versions prior to 1.3.8a. The issue lies within the 'make_ftp_cmd' function in 'main.c'. This vulnerability results in a one-byte out-of-bounds read, leading to a daemon crash. This occurs due to mishandled quote and backslash semantics in the input processing. Successful exploitation could potentially allow attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial-of-service condition. System administrators are recommended to update to the latest version of ProFTPD to mitigate this risk.
