Summary

CVE-2023-5088 is a vulnerability affecting QEMU, an open-source virtual machine emulator. This bug allows guest I/O operations to be redirected to offset 0 instead of the intended arbitrary disk offset. For instance, L2 guests with a vdiskL2 on a vdiskL1 hypervisor can exploit this vulnerability to read and write data to LBA 0 of vdiskL1, potentially gaining control of the L1 hypervisor upon its next reboot. This issue could have severe implications, especially in cloud computing environments, and requires immediate patching to prevent unauthorized access.
