Summary

CVE-2023-50729 is a serious vulnerability affecting the open-source GPS tracking system, Traccar. Before version 5.11, Traccar contained an unrestricted file upload flaw in its File feature. This vulnerability enables attackers to upload and execute arbitrary code on the server, posing a significant risk. The severity of this issue is amplified due to the common practice of running Traccar web servers as the root user. Furthermore, attackers can potentially write or overwrite files in any location, leading to potentially devastating consequences. Version 5.11 has been released to address this vulnerability.
