Summary

CVE-2023-50726 is a vulnerability affecting Argo CD, a popular continuous delivery tool for Kubernetes. The issue lies in the "Local sync" feature, which normally requires high levels of trust to override application manifests. However, an improper validation bug allows users with `create` privileges but not `override` privileges to sync local manifests when creating new applications. This bypasses any merge protections in git, potentially leading to unintended changes. The bug was introduced in version 1.2.0-rc1 and has since been patched in versions 2.10.3, 2.9.8, and 2.8.12. To mitigate the risk, users unable to upgrade should consider removing RBAC access for creating applications. The only definitive solution is to upgrade to a patched version.
