Summary

CVE-2023-50714 affects the yii2-authclient extension, a popular package used for OpenID, OAuth, OAuth2, and OpenID Connect authentication in the Yii Framework 2.0. This vulnerability exposes two issues with the OAuth2 Proof Key for Client Exchange (PKCE) implementation in yii2-authclient before version 2.2.15. First, the `authCodeVerifier` should be properly removed after use, similar to `authState`. Failing to do so creates a potential security risk. Second, there's a risk of downgrade attacks if PKCE is relied upon for Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) protection. The patch for this vulnerability can be found in version 2.2.15 of yii2-authclient, with no known workarounds currently available.
