Summary

CVE-2023-4999 is a vulnerability affecting the Horizontal scrolling announcement plugin for WordPress. Attackers with subscriber-level permissions or higher can exploit this issue by injecting SQL queries through the plugin's [horizontal-scrolling] shortcode in versions up to 9.2. The vulnerability stems from insufficient escaping on user-supplied parameters and a lack of proper preparation of existing SQL queries. The result is that an attacker can append additional SQL queries to existing ones, potentially extracting sensitive information from the database. This poses a serious risk to WordPress sites using the affected plugin.
