Summary

CVE-2023-49290 affects the lestrrat-go/jwx Go module, which implements various JWx technologies. A denial-of-service vulnerability exists due to an attacker manipulating the p2c parameter in JWE's PBES2-* algorithms. The p2c parameter determines the number of PBKDF2 iterations for deriving a CEK wrapping key and is meant to slow down key derivation functions. By setting the p2c parameter to an excessively large number, an attacker can cause significant computational consumption leading to a denial of service. This vulnerability has been addressed in commit `64f2a229b`, included in release versions 1.2.27 and 2.0.18. Users are advised to upgrade as there are currently no known workarounds.
