Summary

CVE-2023-48958 is a recently disclosed vulnerability affecting the gpac 2.3-DEV media tool. The issue stems from memory leaks in the 'mpd.c' file, specifically at line 4589. As a result, the software may consume excessive memory, potentially leading to system instability or crashes. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by crafting a maliciously crafted media file, causing the memory leak and resulting in a denial-of-service condition or possibly executing arbitrary code. It is recommended that users of gpac media tools update to the latest, non-vulnerable version as soon as possible.
