Summary

CVE-2023-48712 is a privilege escalation vulnerability affecting Warpgate, an open-source SSH, HTTPS, and MySQL bastion host for Linux. In vulnerable versions, non-admin users can impersonate another user's account if single-factor authentication is the only authentication method configured. By attempting to log in as an admin user with an incorrect password, an attacker can gain access to a valid non-admin username and password, ultimately logging in as the admin user. This vulnerability impacts all installations prior to version 0.9.0, and there are currently no known workarounds, making an upgrade to the latest version the most effective mitigation.
