Summary

CVE-2023-48293 is a cross-site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerability affecting the XWiki Admin Tools Application before version 4.5.1. This issue allows an attacker to execute arbitrary database queries on an XWiki installation, potentially leading to data modification or deletion, and even the creation of privileged accounts. The vulnerability can be exploited through malicious comments containing wiki syntax, such as `[[image:path:/xwiki/bin/view/Admin/QueryOnXWiki?query=DELETE%20FROM%20xwikidoc]]`. Fortunately, form token checks have been added in Admin Tools Application 4.5.1 to mitigate the issue. Users can also choose to delete the `Admin.SQLToolsGroovy` document to deactivate all database query tools. Alternatively, manual patching or complete removal of the query tool can be considered as workarounds.
