Summary

CVE-2023-4798 is a vulnerability affecting the User Avatar WordPress plugin before version 1.2.2. This issue permits contributors, who typically have limited privileges, to execute Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) attacks. The plugin fails to adequately sanitize and escape specific attributes within its shortcodes, leaving the door open for malicious scripts to be stored and later executed in the context of other users. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access, data theft, or website defacement. Upgrading to the latest version of the User Avatar plugin is recommended to mitigate this risk.
