Summary

CVE-2023-47630 is a vulnerability affecting Kyverno, a Kubernetes policy engine. The issue enables an attacker to manipulate the digest of images used by Kyverno users, potentially leading to further escalation of privileges. For the attacker to exploit this, they must first compromise the registry from which the Kyverno users fetch their images. Two methods of exploitation are possible: the attacker identifies the images consumed by Kyverno users and leverages known vulnerabilities in previous digests, or they craft a malicious image with a different digest and deliver it to the user. Users pulling images by digests from trusted registries are not affected. The vulnerability, which has not been reported in the wild, has been addressed in Kyverno version 1.10.5. All users are advised to upgrade as soon as possible. No known workarounds exist for this vulnerability.
