Summary

CVE-2023-45823 is a vulnerability affecting Artifact Hub, a web application used for finding, installing, and publishing packages and configurations for Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) projects. A security researcher discovered a bug that allows an attacker to read internal files by exploiting symbolic links in certain git repositories indexed by Artifact Hub. The application clones these repositories and reads some files during the process, but fails to validate if a file is a symbolic link. As a result, an attacker can potentially access arbitrary files on the system, which could lead to sensitive information leaks. Artifact Hub has addressed this issue in version 1.16.0, and users are strongly advised to upgrade. Unfortunately, there are currently no known workarounds for this vulnerability.
