Summary

CVE-2023-45805 is a vulnerability affecting the pdm Python package and dependency manager. Malicious actors can manipulate the `pdm.lock` file to make it appear as if a trusted PyPI project depends on a different project, potentially installing unintended or even malicious code. This can be achieved by creating a new project with a similar name and uploading a manipulated package file to PyPI. The impact of this vulnerability is that the installed dependencies may not match those listed in `pyproject.toml`, posing a risk for arbitrary code execution and downgrade attacks. The issue has been resolved in commit `6853e2642df`, which is included in pdm release version `2.9.4`. Users are strongly advised to upgrade as soon as possible, and there are currently no known workarounds for this vulnerability.
