Summary

CVE-2023-44398 is a newly identified vulnerability in the Exiv2 library, specifically in version v0.28.0. An out-of-bounds write vulnerability was discovered in the `BmffImage::brotliUncompress` function, which is a new addition in this version. This issue arises when Exiv2 processes a specially crafted image file, potentially allowing an attacker to execute arbitrary code. The vulnerability does not affect earlier versions of Exiv2, and there are currently no known workarounds. Users are strongly advised to upgrade to the latest version, Exiv2 v0.28.1, to mitigate the risk.
